Chain plates

I had a question from David about chain plates and how I supported the U bolts below decks.

My Endurance has a fibreglass shelf around the top of the hull onto which I have bolted the deck which also takes the cabin and cockpit moulding.

The U bolts for the shrouds are fixed through this and galvanised steel plates are anchored beneath. The photos hopefully show the arrangements.

Three of the plates hold one U bolt each with the other longer one holding four. The longer one needs wooden spacers to provide additional strength and prevent the deck flexing as the forces are high.

I am a well traveled, globe-trotting vessel with great lines. I am told I give a comfortable ride for my years. Although a little worn out I am looking forward to getting back onto the water after a full service.
